About Sara

Sara is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH) and Endobiogenic Medicine Society (EMS), and is former President of Middlesex University’s Complementary and Alternative Medicine Academic Society (CAMAS).

Sara works at Napiers Edinburgh Clinic, where she assists and supports her mentor, Senior Medical Herbalist, Dee Atkinson (FNIMH) in a busy general medicine clinic, with a special interest in women’s health, managing hormonal health, ageing, long COVID, Lyme Disease and Cancer.

Sara has always had an interest in health and wellbeing, and dedicated herself to the profession of Herbal Medicine after the healing power of plants helped to resolve her own complex health condition. After extensive travel in South India learning about Yoga and Ayurveda, she returned to the UK to complete her MSc. in Western Herbal Medicine. Her background in Yoga and Ayurveda is reflected in her holistic approach to herbal treatment, which often includes individualised dietary and lifestyle advice and mind-body practices, which work to address imbalances in the mental and emotional aspects of health, as well as the physical.

Sara is also trained in Endobiogenic medicine, which was developed by two French medical doctors, Christian Duraffourd and Jean-Claude Lapraz, over the course of their 40 years of clinical experience. Endobiogenic medicine, in a similar way to Functional Medicine, relies on evidence based scientific research in physiology and pathology and uses nutritional supplements and plant-based medicine to correct underlying imbalances in the functioning of a person's neuroendocrine system. It also makes use of a unique Biology of Functions blood test which is designed to evaluate the functioning capabilities of the neuroendocrine system and provides a valuable tool to gain a deeper insight into the underlying root cause of complex and chronic health conditions.

Sara’s legal background means that she has experience of working in stressful corporate environments and has seen first-hand how stress at work can impact health and well being. As a result of this she has a particular interest in stress related conditions.

How Sara works with Senior Medical Herbalist, Dee Atkinson:
While Sara will act as lead clinician in Dee's Tuesday Clinic, consulting with patients either in-person in Edinburgh or via remote appointment, (Dee will also consult remotely on Tuesdays), and Dee will take the lead in the Wednesday Clinic, holding patient consultations herself. Following the consultation, Dee and Sara will work together to review each case, using the benefit of both practitioners' expertise to build a wider view of the deeper underlying picture, and a multidisciplinary approach to formulation of individualised treatment.
